Holton french horn serial number chart1/13/2024 DAVEįirst, there's a reason why I never updated the Holton section on : their horns have never been regarded as professional quality. If you want to buy this Holton make sure it has a neck before you bid. Good vintage saxophones cost more than this Holton. Of course, you get what you pay for in most cases. I'm sure there may be a Holton out there that someone likes, but I'd recommend more popular brands in the vintage arena (e.g, Buescher, Conn, King, Selmer-Paris). If this Holton has a neck with it, $95.00 may be okay, but I'm guessing a good Buescher TrueTone or Aristocrat of similar vintage would be a better buy, even if for a bit more money. You didn't specifically say that you were interested in this eBay offering, but since you linked it, I'll assume you are. I saw a sizable dent in the bow of the pictured horn it appears that the low Bb pad was re-padded with a Noyek (is that the correct spelling?) resonator while the low B pad appears to have a different reso and no neck is shown or mentioned. Note the two bell pads are on the left side of the bell, typical of saxophones made in the 1930's and early 1940's. From the position of the bell pads, I'm guessing 1940's, not 1970's, but I admit to not being an expert on Holton saxophones.
